A door that has come off its track needs attention right away

A garage door rides in a metal track on each side, held by rollers and lifted by cables and springs. When a roller pops out, a cable slips, or a track gets bent, the door can hang crooked, jam halfway, or come down on one side. It may look like a small problem, but an off-track door is unbalanced and heavy, and it can be unsafe to move.

Common signs include a door that is tilted or has a gap along one side, rollers visible outside the track, a cable hanging loose, a bent or dented track, a grinding or scraping noise, or a door that will not go up or down all the way. Most of the time it happens after a car bumps the door, after an opener keeps running against a blockage, or when a broken spring or worn roller lets the door shift.

If your door is off track, stop using it. Do not press the opener or try to force the door up or down. Pulling the red release cord can make things worse if the door is not supported. Keep people, pets and cars away from it and give us a call.

We repair off-track doors at homes across St. Louis and the inner-ring suburbs. We take care of the track, rollers and cables, and we check the panels, springs and opener for damage that may have caused the problem or come from it. Most repairs are completed in a single visit.

Current offer: $50 off your first garage door repair or service call. This offer ends December 19, 2026.

Garage door off-track questions

What should I do when my garage door comes off its track?

Stop using it. Do not run the opener or try to lift or lower the door by hand, because it can be unbalanced and heavy. Keep people and vehicles clear of the door and call us at (314) 766-4292.

Can I push the door back into the track myself?

We do not recommend it. A door that is off track often has a bent track, a loose cable or a damaged spring under tension. Forcing it can cause injury or bend parts further, which can make the repair bigger.

What causes a garage door to come off its track?

The usual causes are a car or object hitting the door, a worn or broken roller, a cable that has slipped or snapped, a broken spring, a bent or misaligned track, or an opener that kept running against an obstruction.

Why did my cable come off, and is that the same as being off track?

They are related. A slipped or broken cable lets one side of the door drop, and that often pulls the rollers out of the track. We check both and repair them together when needed.

Can a bent track be repaired?

It depends on how badly it is bent. We inspect the track, and we will tell you whether it can be straightened and re-aligned or whether the section needs to be replaced.

Will the door need to be replaced?

Often it does not. Many off-track doors can be repaired and put back to work. If panels are badly damaged, we will explain your options. Estimates on new door installation are free through December 19, 2026.

Can you come the same day?

We offer same-day service. Call us and we will tell you what we can do. Emergency service is also available after hours, including nights, weekends and holidays.

What does off-track repair cost?

The cost depends on what is damaged. We use flat-rate pricing, so you will know the price before we start. Ask about $50 off your first repair or service call, which ends December 19, 2026.

Do you work on all garage door brands?

We service and install many brands, including Clopay, Amarr, C.H.I. Overhead Doors, Wayne Dalton, Raynor, Overhead Door and Windsor Door, as well as openers from LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie, Craftsman, Sommer, Marantec, Ryobi, Linear and Stanley.
