Call (314) 766-4292Garage door questions from University City homeowners
Why does my garage door reverse before it closes?
Often the safety sensors near the floor are out of alignment or blocked, or something is in the door path. Wipe the lenses, check that both sensor lights are steady and clear any obstruction. If the door still reverses, the travel or limit settings may need adjusting. Call us and we will take a look.
My garage door is stuck open or halfway. What should I do?
Keep people and cars away from the door and do not try to force it. Do not stand under it. Pulling the release cord may drop a door with a broken spring. Call us and we will come check it safely.
How can I tell if a spring is broken?
Common signs are a loud bang from the garage, a visible gap in the torsion spring, or a door that feels very heavy or will not lift. Stop using the door and call for help.
Can I replace a torsion spring myself?
We do not recommend it. Torsion springs hold a lot of stored tension and can cause serious injury. Torsion springs sit on a bar above the door, and extension springs run along the side tracks. Either type is best replaced by a trained technician.
How much does spring replacement or a new door cost?
It depends on the door size, the spring type, the condition of the parts and whether repair or replacement makes sense. We give a flat-rate price before work starts. Call (314) 766-4292 to talk through your door.
My opener hums or clicks but the door will not move. Why?
This often points to a broken spring or a problem inside the opener, such as worn gears. Do not keep running the opener, because that can cause more damage. Call us to find the cause.
My door came off the track or a cable slipped. Can I keep using it?
No. Stop using the door, because it can jam or fall. Bent tracks, loose cables and hit-by-car damage are common causes. We repair off-track doors and cables.
Can you program a remote or keypad?
Yes. We program remotes and keypads for brands such as LiftMaster, Chamberlain and Genie, as well as other openers.
Do you replace worn bottom seals?
Yes. We replace garage door weather seals that let in drafts, water or pests.
