A local team for Florissant garage doors

When your garage door stops working, you want someone who picks up the phone and tells you when they can be there. Gateway Garage Doors is a family-owned, insured team based on Delmar Blvd in St. Louis, and Florissant is part of the area we serve every week. We are not a call center or a national chain. You reach a local St. Louis garage door team on a local 314 number.

Most garage door problems fall into a few groups: a door that will not open or close, a broken spring, an opener that hums or clicks, a cable that has come loose, or a door that has jumped off its track. We handle all of these, and the smaller jobs too, such as worn rollers, damaged panels, tired weather seals and remote or keypad programming.

We offer same-day service, and most repairs are completed in a single visit. The same technician who looks at your door and gives you the quote also does the work, so you are not handed from person to person. Broken springs and openers are repaired with quality parts, and our technicians are background-checked.

We also work on Florissant's neighbors, including Ferguson-area routes through St. Louis, University City, Olivette and Clayton, so if you are a bit outside town, call and ask.

Garage door questions from Florissant homeowners

Why won't my garage door close, or why does it reverse before it closes?

The most common cause is the safety sensors near the floor. If one is bumped out of line or blocked, the door will stop and go back up. Check that nothing is in the way, wipe the lenses, and see that both sensor lights are steady. If the door still reverses, the limit settings or the opener may need adjusting, and we can take a look.

My door is stuck open or halfway. What should I do while I wait?

Keep people and pets away from the door and do not try to force it. Do not stand under a door that is partly open. If you can, leave it where it is and call us. A stuck door often means a spring, cable or track problem that is safest to leave to a technician.

How can I tell if a spring is broken?

Common signs are a loud bang from the garage, a visible gap in the torsion spring above the door, or a door that feels very heavy when you lift it by hand. If you see any of these, stop using the opener and call us.

Can I replace a torsion spring myself?

We do not recommend it. Torsion springs are under high tension and can cause serious injury if handled wrong. Torsion springs sit in a bar above the door, while extension springs run along the sides of the tracks. Either type should be replaced by a trained technician.

How much does a spring replacement or a new door cost?

It depends on the door size, weight and the type of spring or door you need. We give you a flat-rate price before we begin the work. For a new door, call us to ask about our free estimates, available through December 19, 2026.

My opener hums or clicks but the door does not move. What does that mean?

This often points to a broken spring or a problem with the opener's gear or drive. It can also be a door that is locked or jammed. Do not keep pressing the button. Call us and we will find out whether the opener or the door is the cause. We work on LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie and other common brands.

My garage door came off track or a cable slipped. Can I keep using it?

No. Using a door with a loose cable or a bent track can damage it further and can be unsafe. Leave it alone and call us for off-track or cable repair.

Why is my garage door noisy?

Grinding, squeaking or rattling usually points to worn rollers, dry hinges or loose hardware. A tune-up and new rollers often make a big difference.

Can you program my remote or keypad?

Yes. We program remotes and keypads for common brands, including LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie and many universal remotes.

Do you replace worn bottom seals?

Yes. We replace weather seals that let in drafts, water, leaves and pests, which helps in winter too.

What if my door breaks after hours?

Emergency garage door service is available after hours. Call us any time, including nights, weekends and holidays, at (314) 766-4292.

How can I pay?

We accept cash, credit card, debit card, check, Zelle and Venmo, and financing is available.
